Susquehanna encourages the return of all students who took time away from the university for personal reasons. We are committed to providing support and guidance to help navigate your academic journey back to college.
Students who left the university due to nonvoluntary conditions should refer to their leave of absence letter for information on their return, including dates and conditions.
Intention to Reenter
All students requesting a return to the university must complete an Intention to Reenter Form. Please complete the form by clicking the link below. After submitting, a confirmation email will be sent with further instructions.
If you are returning after a medical leave of absence, academic suspension or disciplinary suspension, see additional requirements for each scenario below.
“I knew I had to finish what I started.” — Brianna Phipps ’22
“There is no shame in taking time away. I felt the pressure on myself because I wouldn’t be finishing in the initial four years as expected. But realizing that, I’m doing life at my own pace and that it doesn’t matter when you finish. That motivated me to go back and give it my all.”
Return Scenarios
Review the following scenarios for more information and steps necessary to return to the university.
All students requesting a return to the university must complete an Intention to Reenter Form. After submitting, a confirmation email will be sent with further instructions.
In order to be considered for return, we ask that you seek medical treatment to resolve the issue and/or participate in ongoing therapeutic care while you are away. Students who are approved for a Medical Leave of Absence (MLOA) are generally expected to spend at least three months and up to one full semester away from the university to focus on treatment and recovery from the matters that precipitated the MLOA.
Additional requirements: Students returning from a Medical Leave of Absence (MLOA) will be asked to provide the Dean of Health and Wellness records documenting care received during the absence from the university. Susquehanna’s Counseling and Psychological Services will request the following documents:
Submit a release for the Center for Academic Success and for each health provider seen during your diagnosis and treatment.
Request that each provider submit the Readmission Provider Report Form regarding your readiness to return to full-time studies at a residential college.
Submit a letter reflecting on any additional activities you participated in to promote personal wellness and describing a success plan for your return.
To allow time for processing requests for readmission, all required materials must be received by the deadline for the semester you intend to return.
Fall semester: June 15
Spring semester: Nov. 15
Summer semester: March 15
A student returning from suspension will be on probation until meeting the criteria for good academic standing and must complete a Plan for Success. See the Academic Probation tab for more.
Students returning from suspension are expected to achieve good academic standing by the end of two semesters after being readmitted. If, after two semesters, the student remains below the relevant probation criterion, they will be permanently suspended from the university. If, after two semesters, the student is above the relevant probation criterion but still below good academic standing, they may have a third and final semester to achieve good academic standing.
Additional requirements: Email supporting documentation to su-cas@nigzob.com and indicate your interest in returning.
A one-page letter outlining:
What hindered academic performance during your time at Susquehanna;
What you’ve done during your time away to address those issues;
A plan of action explaining how you will use campus resources to succeed, including how you would deal with any minor setbacks, after returning to the university
Supporting documentation (letter of recommendation from employer, therapist, professor, etc., indicating readiness to return)
Students who left the University due to nonvoluntary conditions should refer to their leave of absence letter for information on their return, including dates and conditions.
Additional requirements: Contact the Student Life Office at vpsl@nigzob.com to discuss any specific stipulations on returning to campus.
“Confidence in yourself will help to make the choice to further your degree, and once you get to Susquehanna you’ll be surrounded by students and professors alike that are invested in your success.”
Enrolled students follow the requirements of the course catalog for the academic year in which they declare each major and/or minor, consult with their advisor(s) and the Academic Planning Tool.
